sound familiar?
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

a different sort of trip.
Dear Reader,
Here is a conversation that transpired between me and my sister on the way from Grandma's house to the airport on Monday.
Me: Ooh, let's go see the biggest skillet.
Anna [pronounced On-uh, lest you hear it in your head incorrectly]: Hmm, I'm not sure how far it is off the highway.
Me: Look, it's in Brandon, the dot is right there next to the highway. [pointing to the actual map as opposed to the hand-drawn map my father provided to Grandma's house. We had to turn around 3 times]
Anna: Well, maybe. We'll see if we see any signs to The World's Biggest Skillet.
Me: I did, I saw a hand-painted sign to Brandon. And it's just Iowa's Biggest Skillet, not the world's.
Anna: Oh, well, then. Nevermind. It's not worth my time to see IOWA'S Biggest Skillet.
Hrmph.
Signed,

BSC
Oh my goodness...
I have no idea what the equivalent of the Baby-sitters Club would be to today's girls. I loved those books. I wanted to live those books. Are you kidding? Middle school girls, starting their own club-- one of them had her own PHONE LINE-- traveling across the country together.
When I was in 4th grade, my friends and I gave each other names from the Baby-sitters Club. I don't remember who I was, but I do remember one thing: Krista Donaldson was Stacey. I remember this distinctly because we once had a classroom visitor named Miss Stacey.
Is anyone names Stacey? She asked.
Krista raised her hand.
My friends sometimes call me Stacey.
That was supposed to be our secret club. I may have been Dawn. Maybe Kristi because I initiated it. Not sure.
Little did I know, however, that there were entire blogs dedicated to the BSC. Holy Crap! What Claudia Wore Oh my goodness! BSC Headquarters
Seriously. Where are these girls and why aren't we friends?

FoJ
Happy FoJ. Do something patriotic-- I probably won't. Spending the afternoon with HotCop doing (her) wedding stuff.
